As a first buy for an amateur home remodeler, I could choose Skil or Ryobi for the price. I chose Skil just to be different from my partner who used Ryobi. My partner was a seasoned professional and his Ryobi tools had much better battery life and didn't cost any more (at the time). Now, I get so little battery life that it takes longer to charge the second battery than the first lasts. I'm going with Bosch now!

I am a Land Surveyor, and bought a reconditioned combo kit for the full size circular saw. I use the saw with a diamond blade to make saw cuts in concrete curbs for property corners, and the drill, light, and reciprocating saw for home use. I am pleased with the tools. My kit came with two batteries, and one charger. I just dropped off the two original batteries after two years to be recelled at a local battery shop. They would not hold a charge any more. I only use the tools occassionally, but have been pleased. I wish the batteries would last longer, even when they were new, but in my business, I understand that batteries are the weak point in field tools. You just have to maintain them properly, and have plenty of batteries and chargers on hand.

I just purchased an additional battery, and will probably pick up another battery, and another charger to keep all of the batteries hot.

This drill had degenerated into an unused tool due to the degradation of the battery power, it is now my favorite drill again.

The Skil tool set came with two batteries. After less than a year one will not charge at all and the other takes some charge but does not last long at all. From the many other comments this appears to be a design flaw which I think should lead Skil to replace batteries under warranty or at least a much cheaper replacement price.

Your batteries wore out in less then 6 month of use. I bought another drill to get two additional batteries at half the cost of what you want to replacement batteries and those also ran out. I am going with another brand of tool and hope they have better batteries. Now what to do with all this junk.

THESER BATTERIES ARE JUNK I WAS GIVEN A SKIL SET LESS THAN 1 YEAR AGO. THE CRDLSS CIR. SAW HAS LITTLE POWER AND DRAINS THE BATT. ON THE SECOND CUT. 1 BATT. I like the drill these batteries came with but they soon began decreasing in capacity and now, little more than a year after purchase, I barely can get 10 minutes of use out of each battery. They also lose charge quite rapidly when idle (removed from drill). I know and understand the memory issue of NiCad batteries and take steps to prevent it, but these are simply unacceptable. Would buy LiOn replacements for the drill if possible but since it is not, when the situation gets untenably worse, I will chuck the whole outfit and go with another brand. Will not put good money after bad.

I have owned the full set of tools for two years and have now gone through five of these batteries.
I will not purchase any more, I will definitely switch to Dewalt. We use Dewalt at work day in and day out with excellent results. I always liked Skil, but the cordless stuff is definitely NOT reliable.

I have gone through 4 batteries so far that have failed. Circular saw was underpowered. I was attracted by the low price, but I've spent more on batteries than a better set would have cost me.

the tools are great
with in 1 year 2 batteries went bad
in 9 months another battery went bad
seems to be cheaper to buy whole sets of tools
than replacing the batteries.now i am stuck with only 1 battery and that really slowes my work down when i depend on these tool may go to another brand for my business

I guess you have to except that batteries or not permanent, but I was shocked how quickly one of my 2 batteries failed (maybe a dozen uses over 18 months). What I really wanted was a Li-Ion upgrade but Skil has chosen not to offer this, unlike some other brands. I have come to expect great things from Skil, and this is just not up to that standard.

I put the battery in the charger to charge and it over heated and melted the case to the point that the battery could not be removed from the charger. Luckly it did not cause a fire.

It worked satisfactory for the first month. I have 2 batteries 1 wont charge at all. The other 1 can't drive a 2" screw fully charged. Spend the extra $$ on the yellow tools....

I bought the additional battery because the 2 that came with the units I use it on, were not holding a charge very long. This one is no better and I thought it would be new and last longer

You can get Skil tools in stores, but must go online for battery replacement. But ordering was easy!

we cut (2) christmas trees about 2"-3" dia.using a skil reciprocating saw. halfway through the second tree we have to change the battery. the battries are useless as far as I'm concerned. The battries were fully charged each time. They have no lasting power. I'm not a contractor so the saw does not get used everyday; but I do keep the battries fully charged. I keep the battries warm before use so they would not lose power.
